Govt Makes $349m Payment on Restructured Eurobond Debt
Accra, Ghana - 3 July, 2025 - The Government of Ghana has made a substantial payment of $349.52 million to meet its restructured Eurobond debt obligations, with coupon payments scheduled for today, July 3, 2025.
This latest transaction, facilitated by the Bank of Ghana in collaboration with its correspondent banking partners in Europe and the United States, demonstrates Ghana's commitment to honouring its financial obligations.
The payment is part of the country's debt exchange programme, which was successfully concluded last year. Ghana had reached an agreement with its creditors to restructure approximately $13 billion in Eurobond liabilities, enabling staggered repayments.
Since resuming Eurobond repayments in October 2024, Ghana has made significant progress, including a total payout of $520 million in 2024.
This latest payment is expected to bolster Ghana's sovereign credit profile, improve investor confidence, and potentially lower borrowing costs in the medium term. Market watchers are closely monitoring the country's debt repayment progress, and this payment is seen as a positive development.
Ghana's debt repayment schedule is expected to continue, with a subsequent coupon payment due in August 2025. The government is also expected to begin servicing its bilateral debts from 2026.
