Government Renews Curfew in Bawku

Accra, Ghana - 06 June, 2025 - The Ghanaian government has renewed a curfew in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region, effective June 6, 2025. The curfew will be in effect from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am, as announced by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, through an Executive Instrument.

In a bid to maintain peace and stability in the area, the government has also imposed a total ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Anyone found with such items will face arrest and prosecution. This move aims to reduce the risk of violence and promote a safer environment for residents.

The Minister, in a statement, appealed to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of Bawku Municipality to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to address challenges. The government encourages the community to channel their energies towards ensuring peace and stability in the area.

This development comes as part of the government's efforts to address security concerns and promote peaceful coexistence among residents. The curfew and ban on arms are expected to remain in effect until further notice, with the government closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to maintain peace and stability in the region.
