Government has stayed on track with fiscal responsibility despite election pressures - Finance Minister
Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has reassured citizens that the government has maintained fiscal discipline despite the upcoming general elections on December 7.
This is a significant achievement, especially considering the massive infrastructure developments underway across the country.
According to Dr. Adam, the government has kept spending under control and avoided budget deficits, even in the face of significant investment in infrastructure projects.
During a press briefing on Dec 3, Dr. Amin Adam stated the government's commitment to fiscal responsibility has been maintained despite the pressures of an election year.
He stated that in addition to its fiscal discipline, the government has also implemented policies aimed at supporting economic recovery. These efforts have been recognized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which recently approved a $360 million disbursement to Ghana.
The Finance Minister has also provided assurances to Ghanaians who have suffered investment losses due to the debt restructuring program.
Dr. Adam expects that these losses will be recovered by the end of 2026, driven by an anticipated economic rebound and improvements in macroeconomic indicators.
“In an election year, we have maintained uncharacteristic fiscal discipline, and with all the massive infrastructure around the country, as demonstrated by the many [projects] His Excellency the President has commissioned recently, we have continued to stay the course. We have continued to invest in our people.”
