Government Declares March 31 and April 1 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr

Accra, Ghana - 22 March, 2025 -The Ghanaian government has announced that Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, will be public holidays in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant Islamic celebration.

This declaration comes after Eid-ul-Fitr's statutory holiday coincided with Sunday, March 30, 2025.

According to Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed, the additional public holidays will enable citizens, particularly the Muslim community, to fully participate in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations nationwide.

The government's decision is in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), which grants the President the authority to declare public holidays.

Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is a time for Muslims to come together in prayer, feasting, and acts of charity.

The public has been urged to observe the holidays accordingly and comply with the presidential declaration.
