GoldBod Tightens Grip on Gold Export, Extends Licensing Deadline to June 21

Accra, Ghana - 23 May, 2025 - The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has granted a one-month extension to stakeholders in the gold trading industry, pushing the deadline for transitioning to its new licensing regime from May 21 to June 21, 2025.
This decision follows multiple petitions from industry players and aims to facilitate a smoother transition.
Under the revised directive, holders of licenses previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources can continue operating until the new deadline.
However, GoldBod emphasized in a statement, that this is a final grace period, and only holders of its licenses will be permitted to buy, sell, or deal in gold after June 21, 2025.
Notably, the export function tied to old licenses has been revoked effective immediately, with GoldBod now holding sole authority to export small-scale gold from Ghana.
The agency encouraged prospective traders and dealers to submit their license applications via its website and reiterates the importance of cooperation from stakeholders in implementing these regulatory reforms.
