GOIL Announces New Fuel Prices Effective August 19, 2025

Accra,August 19,2025 - Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) has announced new fuel prices, effective Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. prompt. According to the company's social media post, the new prices are as follows:

- Super XP: GHC 12.88 per liter

- Diesel XP: GHC 14.30 per liter

- Super XP 95: GHC 14.88 per liter

This price adjustment comes after GOIL previously reduced fuel prices in August 2025, with Super XP selling at GHC 12.52 per liter and Diesel XP at GHC, effective June 2, 2025. However, the current prices reflect a more recent adjustment.

The new fuel prices announced by GOIL are expected to bring relief to motorists and commuters.

Background

The recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar has provided room for oil marketing companies to lower prices at the pump. Industry insiders suggest that competition and customer pressure may soon push more fuel retailers to adjust their prices accordingly.

Impact on Consumers

The price adjustment is expected to ease the financial burden on consumers and transport operators who have long called for downward reviews following the cedi's strong gains. However, other oil marketing companies are yet to follow suit, and consumers are calling on them to create a level playing field and further drive down transport fares.

Comparison with Other Oil Marketing Companies

In January 2025, other oil marketing companies had the following prices :

- Total Energies: Petrol (GHC 15.50 per liter), Diesel (GHC 15.99 per liter)

- Shell: Petrol (GHC 15.30 per liter), Diesel (GHC 15.66 per liter)

- Star Oil: Petrol (GHC 14.75 per liter), Diesel (GHC 14.99 per liter)

GOIL's new prices are more competitive, with Super XP priced at GHC 12.88 per liter. This development may influence broader pricing trends in the coming days.
