GoldBod Kicks Off Licensing for Service Providers on April 23

Accra, Ghana - 23 April, 2025 - Ghana's gold trading sector is undergoing a significant transformation as the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the start of licensing for service providers in the industry. Effective April 23, 2025, eligible individuals and companies can apply for various licenses to operate in the sector.
The GoldBod has opened applications for four categories of licenses: Aggregator, Self-financing Aggregator, Buyer (Tier 2), and Buyer (Tier 1). Additional licenses, including Refining, Smelting, Fabrication, Storage, Transportation, and Importation, will be available for application from July 2025.
To be eligible, applicants must be Ghanaians aged 18 and above or fully owned Ghanaian companies. The application process can be completed online through the GoldBod's website or in person at their office in Accra. Applicants are required to carefully review and accept the terms and conditions of each license before submitting their applications.
The move is part of the government's efforts to regulate the gold trading industry and ensure that Ghanaians benefit from the country's gold resources. The GoldBod has reiterated its directive to all foreigners to exit the local gold trading market by April 30, 2025. However, foreigners may apply to the GoldBod to off-take gold from the board.
The Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140), empowers the board to regulate the gold trading industry and impose penalties for non-compliance. The development is expected to boost the local economy and create opportunities for Ghanaians to participate in the gold trading sector.
