Albert Kwabena Dwumfour is president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA)

Accra, Ghana - 19 Feb, 2025 - President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has strongly condemned the Mahama administration for its failure to protect journalists, citing a surge in violent attacks.

Dwumfour revealed at a press briefing on Feb 18, that seven cases of journalist attacks have been recorded since the start of Mahama's administration, just 50 days ago.

He expressed deep concern over the lack of accountability for perpetrators and criticized the government's inaction. He urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take swift action to protect press freedom, ensuring journalists can work without fear of violence or intimidation.

“It is also disheartening to note that just about 50 days into the second John Mahama administration, we have witnessed seven cases of assault against journalists, and this is unprecedented,'' he stated.
