Ghana's Finance Minister Explores Agriculture and Energy Partnerships with World Bank, Pushes for Regional Office

Accra, Ghana - 12 April, 2025 - Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has met with the Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the World Bank Group, Mr. Wencai Zhang, to discuss key areas of collaboration vital to Ghana's development.

The meeting focused on agriculture, transportation, and energy sectors, with Dr. Forson emphasizing the need for World Bank support in these areas.

Dr. Forson appealed to the World Bank for increased support in these sectors, which he described as essential to the country’s long-term economic growth and development.

The World Bank expressed strong interest in Ghana's agricultural sector, citing it as a priority area. Mr. Zhang highlighted the Bank's wealth of experience and readiness to facilitate and finance project preparation and implementation.

He also disclosed that the Bank is currently working on initiatives aimed at boosting Ghana’s energy sector.

Dr. Forson also proposed establishing a World Bank regional office in Ghana to enhance collaboration and facilitate timely implementation of development projects.

The meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between Ghana and the World Bank, driving sustainable development and delivering real impact for the people of Ghana.
