EC Recalls Ballot Papers, Reschedules Special Voting Exercise in Eastern and Western Regions to Dec 5
A potential threat to the integrity of Ghana's electoral process has been averted, thanks to the swift action of the Electoral Commission (EC). The commission has recalled ballot papers intended for the Eastern and Western Regions, following the discovery of a compromised ballot paper.
The incident, which was reported by National Security, involved a single defaced ballot paper that was found outside the Checkpoint Printing House, the facility responsible for producing the ballot papers for the two regions. The ballot paper, which was meant for destruction, had been improperly disposed of, raising concerns about the potential for electoral malfeasance.
In response to the incident, the EC has rescheduled the special voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions from Monday, December 2, to Thursday, December 5.
Addressing the media on Sunday, December 1, EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa stated that this change will allow for the reprinting and redistribution of the affected ballots, ensuring that the electoral process remains credible and transparent.
She assured the public that strict measures are being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. According to her, the commission remains committed to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that the will of the Ghanaian people is respected.
Meanwhile, the special voting exercise, designed for security personnel, election officials, and media practitioners, will proceed nationwide as scheduled, with the revised date applying only to the Eastern and Western Regions.
