Minimum Wage Rises to GH₵ 19.97 as Gov't and Labour Unions Agree on 10% Base Pay

Accra, Ghana - 20 Feb, 2025 - In a significant development, the Ghanaian government and organized labour have reached an agreement to increase the base pay for public sector workers.

The increment, announced on Thursday, February 20, 2025, will be implemented from January to December 2025, with the daily minimum wage rising to GH₵ 19.97.

This marks the second wage adjustment in less than a year, following a 23% salary increase in 2024 aimed at mitigating the effects of the rising cost of living.

Labour Minister Dr. Rashid Pelpuo confirmed the agreement, which comes after prolonged negotiations between the government and organized labour.

The development is seen as a positive step towards improving the welfare of public sector workers in Ghana.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Organised Labour for their cooperation and understanding in reaching a landmark agreement on the national minimum wage and base pay.

In a statement, he commended Organised Labour for their constructive engagement, which led to fruitful negotiations aimed at improving the welfare of Ghanaian workers.
