Ghana Returns to Normalcy as National Flags Are Restored to Full Mast

Accra ,Ghana ,August 18, 2025 - Following the befitting burial and state funeral of eight public officials who died in a military helicopter crash on August 6 in the Ashanti region, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has directed that national flags at public buildings be restored to full mast with immediate effect.

The Presidency in a statement it issued on Monday August 18 ,expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians and the international community for their overwhelming support since the tragedy. The government acknowledged the solidarity of various groups, including ,traditional chiefs ,clergy and muslim clerics ,civil society groups ,diplomatic corps ,political leaders ,security chiefs and ervice personnel.

According to the statement ,these groups extended condolences, offered assistance, and stood by the bereaved families during the period of mourning. The Presidency was "deeply moved by the outpouring of solidarity shown across the nation and beyond," noting that the messages of sympathy, attendance at the state funeral, practical assistance, and acts of kindness extended to the bereaved families provided great consolation in this time of sorrow.

Special appreciation was extended to individuals and corporate organizations whose support ensured a dignified state burial for the victims. Stanbic Bank Ghana, for example, donated GHS500,000 to the newly established Children’s Support Fund, created to provide financial assistance to the children of the victims.

As Ghana returns to its regular duties, the Presidency has called on all Ghanaians to remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue supporting the families affected by the tragedy.
