Ghana Meteorological Agency Workers Protest Delayed Conditions of Service

Accra, Ghana - 24 June, 2025 - Staff at the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) are growing increasingly frustrated with the agency's management over the delayed implementation of their agreed conditions of service.

Despite working in challenging environments, often risking their lives to provide critical weather forecasts to the public, the workers claim that management has failed to deliver on its promises.

Pastin Ahenkan Egyiri, Divisional Chairman of the Public Services Workers' Union, speaking on behalf of the aggrieved staff stated that the workers are no longer willing to tolerate the delays.

“Our members work in very tough environments—some get caught in rainstorms while on duty, and others even risk snake bites in remote areas. Despite all this, we remain committed to providing accurate meteorological services to the public,”

“But just two months ago, we observed that management was not forthcoming with any updates, and we cannot sit aloof and allow this to continue.”
