Ghana Holds Special Memorial Mass for Late Pope Francis

Accra, Ghana - 25 April, 2025 - Ghanaians joined people around the world in paying tribute to the late Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, who passed away on April 21.

 A government delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, attended a special mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on Friday, April 25, to honor the Pope's memory.

The delegation was joined by prominent religious leaders from various Christian denominations, as well as a representative of the National Chief Imam, in a show of solidarity and respect for the late pontiff.

The solemn ceremony featured heartfelt prayers, hymns, and moving tributes, as Ghanaians mourned the loss of a global spiritual leader who had touched the lives of millions.

Pope Francis, who became the head of the Catholic Church in 2013 after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, was widely respected for his progressive views and commitment to social justice.

His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from around the world, with his burial scheduled to take place at the Vatican on Saturday, April 26.
