Ghana Gets Ready for Hair Transplants: UGMC to Launch Service by Year-End

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) is set to revolutionize hair restoration in Ghana with the introduction of hair transplant services. According to Dr. Baffoe Gyan, Director of Medical Affairs at UGMC, the center has successfully piloted the procedure and is now in the final stages of preparing for a full-scale rollout.

The hair transplant service is part of UGMC's vision to become a world-class medical center offering cutting-edge solutions. The surgeon leading the innovation underwent training in New York and has already achieved promising results. The trial was conducted on a UGMC doctor, and the results have been impressive.

Hair loss can be caused by various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, stress, and certain medications. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies androgenetic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness, as the most common type of baldness. This condition is largely hereditary and related to aging and hormones.

UGMC is committed to pushing the boundaries of medical innovation. The center has already made significant strides in other areas, including Catheter Ablation,Hole-in-Heart Surgery, Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Surgery ,Bone Marrow Transplant and Kidney Transplant.

Dr. Gyan emphasized the importance of collaboration and encouraged Ghanaians abroad with expertise in innovative medical solutions to join the UGMC team. The goal is to make the center a hub for advanced medical care, capable of handling complex cases and providing specialized services.

UGMC's ultimate goal is to become a quaternary hospital, a facility that provides the most specialized and advanced medical care. To achieve this, the center is focused on delivering innovative solutions that are not commonly available in other hospitals. With its commitment to excellence and innovation, UGMC is poised to revolutionize healthcare in Ghana.
