Ghana Elections 2024: Jean Mensa Hails Peace Pact as Key to Stability
Ghana's Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, has hailed the signing of a peace pact by presidential candidates as a crucial milestone in the country's development. The pact, signed on November 28, underscores the candidates' commitment to ensuring peace among their supporters and the nation before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.
The peace pact is seen as a significant step towards promoting peace and stability in Ghana's electoral process. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had initially expressed concerns about signing the agreement, citing a lack of thorough investigations into past election-related fatalities.
Mensa emphasized that the Electoral Commission is committed to preserving peace throughout the electoral process. She noted that the commission has "walked the talk of peace," and is dedicated to ensuring that Ghana remains peaceful and stable during and after the elections.
“The very act of Signing the Peace Pact is symbolic in that it signals to all supporters and Presidential Candidates that they are indeed committed to ensuring that Ghana remains intact before during and after the elections.”
“It also symbolises that the Presidential Candidates have put Ghana first, before their interests and aspirations.”
“As a commission, I’m pleased to note that we have walked the talk of peace.”
