Ghana Armed Forces Debunks Reports of Brigadier General's Arrest
Accra ,19 August 2025 - The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly denied reports circulating in the media that Brigadier General Michael Opoku was arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition. In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the GAF described the reports as "false and misleading".
According to Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, checks with security agencies and national investigative bodies have not corroborated the alleged arrest. "The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed," the statement clarified.
The GAF has urged the public to disregard the false reports and cautioned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation. The military high command emphasized that spreading false information undermines public confidence in national security institutions.
The GAF assured the public that any military personnel found guilty of criminal activity would face the full rigors of the law, just like any other citizen. "Any military officer involved in criminal activity would be subjected to the same legal procedures as any citizen of the country," the statement added.
The Ghana Armed Forces' denial aims to restore public confidence and clarify the situation surrounding Brigadier General Michael Opoku's status.
