Former SWAG President Ackah Anthony Passes Away
Accra, Ghana - 23 June, 2025 - The sports media fraternity in Ghana is mourning the loss of a pioneering figure, Mr. Ackah Anthony, who passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, after a brief illness.
Mr. Anthony, who served as the sixth President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) from 2007 to 2015, left an indelible mark on the country's sports journalism landscape.
During his tenure as President, Mr. Anthony oversaw significant developments in SWAG, including the redesign and renovation of the Association's clubhouse in Dansoman, Accra.
His leadership and vision played a crucial role in shaping the organization's institutional growth.
As a respected sports columnist, Mr. Anthony's writings were widely read and admired. His column, "Candid Corner," featured in The Mirror newspaper, was renowned for its forthright commentary and incisive analysis of sports development in Ghana. His work as a journalist and sports administrator earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of sports enthusiasts.
Mr. Anthony's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, a former Director at the Ministry of Information, and their four children.
