Final Farewell: Burial Rites for Alhaji Muniru and Dr. Murtala Mohammed This Sunday

Accra, Ghana – 10 August, 2025 - The Government of Ghana has announced the burial rites for Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, two Muslim victims of the recent military helicopter crash.

They will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 10, in accordance with Islamic tradition.

On Sunday, August 10 ,Janazah Prayers will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra ,subsequently the victims will be buried at the Military Cemetery in Accra.

The helicopter crash occurred on August 6 in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians. A state funeral for the victims is scheduled for August 15 at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The Mahama Administration has declared a three-day national mourning period, starting Thursday, August 7, which included a flower-laying ceremony attended by mourners nationwide. An evening of reflections and memorial activities has also been held at the State House.
