FIFA Says No to GFA's Bid to Expand Executive Council to 22 Members
The Ghana Football Association's (GFA) proposal to expand its Executive Council from 12 to 22 members has been temporarily rejected by FIFA. The proposed expansion aimed to enhance representation across various stakeholders in Ghanaian football, including additional seats for women's league clubs, regional football associations, and constituent bodies.
FIFA has advised against implementing the expansion at this stage, citing the need for a more thorough evaluation of the proposed changes to ensure they align with FIFA's goals and objectives and a well-planned approach to implementing significant structural changes in the future.
Despite rejecting the expansion plan, FIFA has approved two key proposals submitted by the GFA that included term limit for the GFA President which will be extended from two terms to three, aligning with governance frameworks at CAF and FIFA levels.
Also elected Women's Representative on the Executive Council will now serve as the 2nd Vice President of the GFA, promoting gender equity and advancing women's football.
The GFA is expected to present the approved proposals for ratification at its upcoming Congress on August 12, 2025.
