EC rejects NDC's call for forensic audit of voters register, asks them to utilize existing channels
Accra, Ghana -The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its decision not to conduct a forensic audit of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR), despite persistent calls from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a letter to NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the EC emphasized that existing legal and administrative channels for addressing concerns with the register have not been fully utilized. The commission argues that these mechanisms should be exhausted before considering a forensic audit.
The NDC's request for an audit follows their demonstration on September 17, 2024, and the subsequent petition submitted to the EC.
However, the commission's stance remains unchanged, as outlined in its response letter copied to key stakeholders, including:
- Parliament's Majority and Minority Leaders
- Civil society organizations
- Diplomatic community
- National Peace Council
- Christian Council of Ghana
- Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council
- Chief Imam
- Ahmadiyya Mission
The NDC insists that a comprehensive audit is crucial to ensuring the register's integrity, citing concerns over potential irregularities. The EC's refusal has sparked tensions between the two entities, fueling debates on the electoral process's credibility.
