Ex-ECG Boss Dubik Mahama Ready to Cooperate with Probe into Missing Containers

Accra, Ghana - 03 April, 2025 - Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has pledged to cooperate fully with any investigation into the disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers at the Tema Port.
The containers, which held vital equipment for ECG's operations, were part of a larger shipment of 2,491 containers, with 1,357 now declared missing.
An investigative committee's report has raised serious questions about the handling of the containers, which were left at the port for an extended period without being cleared. The report also revealed that ECG had discontinued its dedicated fund for clearing shipments due to financial constraints, yet still awarded contracts to two firms to clear the containers.
One of the contracted companies lacked the necessary license, sparking concerns over procurement violations. Additionally, ECG's procurement directorate had been merged with its Housing and Estate unit, and the Director of Procurement had no prior experience in procurement.
Mahama voiced surprise and disappointment on the Citi Breakfast Show, stressing that ECG never had control of the containers, which remained under port authority supervision.
“The containers were never in the custody of the ECG. If they were in ECG’s custody, then you can hold ECG responsible but this is the case that they were still under the port authorities and so I am all for whatever investigations there will be and I am ready to sit with whoever to give my side of the story.”
