Energy Minister Sets Up Committee to Explore Private Sector Participation

Accra, Ghana - 25 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Abdullai Jinapor, has inaugurated a seven-member technical committee to develop a comprehensive plan for private sector participation in the power distribution sector.

The committee, comprising energy experts and stakeholders, is tasked with consulting extensively and outlining the best approach for the Ministry to adopt.

The committee's main duty is to engage with consumers, technical players, industry professionals, unions, and other stakeholders to ensure that adequate measures are put in place in the power distribution sector. Hon. Jinapor has urged the committee to prioritize local content participation, reflecting the Government's commitment to promoting local businesses.

The Minister expressed his confidence in the committee's competence, integrity, and commitment, and has assured the public that private sector participation is geared towards securing the best interest of the country.

“The committee’s main duty is to consult extensively, engage consumers, technical players, industry professionals, unions, and all other stakeholders,” he stated.

Committee Members:

- Chairman: Mr. Jabesh Amissah Arthur
- Secretary: Dr. Shafi Suleman
- Members: Mr. Benjamin Boakye, Dr. Simon Akorli, Mr. Ebenezer Baiden, Lawyer Emma Akua Bulley, and Mr. Edward Abrokwah

The committee is expected to deliver on its mandate within a month.
