EC to release detailed voters register summary by Monday despite lacking legal obligation
Accra, Ghana - Nov 8, 2024 - Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) has committed to releasing detailed summaries of the Voters Register by Monday, November 11, according to Deputy Chairman Dr. Bossman Asare.
Despite lacking legal obligation, the EC aims to provide these summaries to enhance transparency and credibility.
The summaries will include breakdowns of registered voters, transferred votes, constituency and regional voter populations, and proxy lists.
In an interview with Joy News, Dr. Asare assured that this information can be accessed from certified registers distributed to political parties. The National Democratic Congress and other parties requested these details to verify the register's credibility.
Citing C.I. 91 (Regulation 27), Dr. Asare emphasized the EC's compliance with providing certified registers within 21 days. The EC maintains the Voters Register's robustness and credibility, urging public support for free, fair, and transparent elections on December 7, 2024.
“This is precisely what the EC has done. If you are a party, it is your responsibility to review the document provided. You’ll find the total number registered per region, enabling you to determine the national figure. Nonetheless, the EC is committed to simplifying this process for political parties by providing summaries at both the national and regional levels. Producing these summaries requires auditing, and those processes are currently underway…”
