EC Suspends Re-collation Exercise in Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North over Missing Documents

Electoral Commission has suspended the re-collation of parliamentary election results for Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies due to unresolved disputes and a shortage of crucial documents.

The decision affects two of the nine constituencies flagged for re-collation following a High Court ruling that cited alleged irregularities in the initial results. So far, the EC has completed the re-collation process for seven constituencies, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerging victorious in all of them.

In Ablekuma North, the re-collation process was halted due to the returning officer's inability to produce 62 missing pink sheets, which are essential for verifying election results. Similarly, in Dome Kwabenya, the returning officer reported that pink sheets for three polling stations existed only in soft copy form, with efforts to obtain hard copies proving unsuccessful.

The NPP has attributed the missing documents to violent disruptions during the initial collation process, claiming that their agents were assaulted and critical documents destroyed. Despite these challenges, the EC has assured stakeholders of its commitment to upholding electoral integrity, with investigations ongoing to address the missing documents and disputes.

The re-collation exercises were conducted under heavy security, with a strong presence of joint military and police personnel to ensure order and transparency. The EC's Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano Bio, emphasized the commission's commitment to resolving the issues and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
