EC Declares Patrick Boamah Winner of Okaikwei Central Seat After Recollation
Accra, Ghana - 05 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Electoral Commission has declared Patrick Yaw Boamah as winner of the Okaikwei Central constituency, following a High Court ruling that ordered the completion of outstanding vote collations.
Boamah, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) incumbent Member of Parliament, secured 21,099 votes, defeating Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 19,368 votes.
The court's intervention came after mandamus applications were filed by candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing incomplete collation results in several constituencies, including Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Techiman South. Justice Forson Agyapong's ruling emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Interestingly, initial reports had suggested Baba Sadiq was leading with 78% of the results declared. However, the final outcome reveals a different story, with Boamah emerging as the winner.
