Ebi Bright Contests Tema Central Parliamentary Result

Tema, Ghana - 27 Jan, 2025 - A legal battle is underway in Ghana's Tema Central Constituency, where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ebi Bright, is contesting the election result.

Bright has filed a petition at the High Court, alleging irregularities in the voting process and seeking to overturn the declaration of Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner.

At the heart of the dispute are three polling stations, where Bright claims the results were compromised by discrepancies in the original and duplicate pink sheets. She alleges that the Electoral Commission's (EC) failure to ensure the integrity of the voting process has led to an inaccurate outcome.

The petition seeks a court order to annul the results from the disputed polling stations and declare Bright the winner, based on earlier results that excluded the contested areas. Alternatively, she is asking for a re-run in the affected polling stations.

The Electoral Commission had earlier completed the collation of results from two outstanding polling stations, following a court directive in January. The final tally showed Forson winning with 18,870 votes, just 55 votes ahead of Bright. The outcome has sparked a heated dispute, with the NDC candidate insisting that the result does not reflect the true will of the electorate.
