Bernard Mornah slams High Court ruling on disqualification, heads to Supreme Court
Bernard Mornah is the flagbearer of the People National's Convention(PNC)

Accra, Ghana -  October 21, 2024 - Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC), is speaking out against the High Court's decision to dismiss his lawsuit challenging the Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to disqualify him from the 2024 presidential race.

Mornah expressed strong dissatisfaction with the ruling, calling it a reflection of the "appalling decay" within the judiciary and criticizing the court's decision as a decline in judicial standards.

Mornah's disqualification, along with 10 other presidential aspirants, was due to errors and omissions in their nomination forms.

In an interview on Citi FM,  he argued that the EC, which disqualified him for lack of meticulousness, shouldn't be the authority to criticize others for such errors, especially since the EC itself falls short of maintaining the same level of accuracy it demands from others.

Mornah is confident in the validity of his claims and plans to take his case to the Supreme Court for further interpretation.

He has already informed his legal team of his intentions.

“I was shocked at the level of decay that is gripping the judiciary and if we will be able to practice democracy because what the judge tried to do is appalling and I feel that we are a long way from democracy and close to anarchy.

“The EC does not come closer to being meticulous when it comes to errors. I pointed out to errors that the EC made on the presidential and parliamentary forms and its mistakes are tolerated and mine are not and I don’t understand that. ”

“The EC told me that I had incomplete particulars on my nomination form, which were worked on and later the EC came and said they detected several errors and omissions and so today if the court is talking about several errors, how can that be several errors and omissions,” Mr Mornah further asked.

“The EC made mistakes on their own forms and we are not allowed to make mistakes. The judge did not look at that and that defies ordinary thinking. What is the error that they are talking about? Is it a data entry error that they are talking about, is it an error of composition and how come those errors were not brought to court?

“The judge did not look at the issues that were brought before it and I have already instructed my lawyers that this case is not ending here and we will go to the Supreme Court and my lawyers say that they will quickly study the case.''
