Accra, Ghana – 5 August, 2025 – The Minister of Communications and Digitalization ,Samuel Nartey George has responded to the NPP Minority's call for engagement on the recent controversy surrounding DStv's price hike. In a Facebook post Sam George assured the Communications Select Committee of Parliament that the Ministry would provide a full update on August 7th, following the completion of regulatory actions.

The Minister revealed that he had met with the Ghanaian management of DStv on June 27th to express concerns about the price hike and subsequently met with their headquarters management on July 4th. During the meeting, the Minister requested a 30% reduction in prices and urged DStv to address piracy issues on their platform.

DStv responded with a 9-page letter on July 21st, which the Minister described as a detailed response to the concerns raised. The Communications Minister emphasized that the policy directive to regulate DStv's prices is a last resort action to protect the Ghanaian public from what appears to be a recalcitrant monopoly.

On August 7th, the regulator is expected to initiate action in line with the terms of the license authorization and the Electronic Communications Act, Act 775. The Minister assured that the Ministry would act within the law and in the interest of the Ghanaian people, emphasizing the importance of accountability to the people of Ghana.
