Dr. Shafic Suleman Named Acting Executive Secretary of PURC

Accra, Ghana - 04 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has named Dr. Shafic Suleman as its new Acting Executive Secretary.

The appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, aims to strengthen the regulator's oversight of the country's energy sector.

Dr. Suleman, a leading expert in energy and sustainability, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has taught at the Institute for Oil and Gas Studies, University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and specializes in energy economics, policy, and law.

The PURC has pledged to protect the interests of consumers and utility providers in Ghana's power and water sectors. The Commission has expressed its support for Dr. Suleman's leadership and President Mahama's vision for the energy sector.

Dr. Suleman's appointment is subject to approval by the PURC Board and the Public Services Commission. He holds a PhD in Energy and Sustainability from De Montfort University in the UK and is a certified Energy Risk Professional.
