Court Orders Psychiatric Evaluation for Togolese Robbery Suspect After Allegedly Eating His Own Faeces

Accra, Ghana - 21 May, 2025 - A court in Ghana has ordered a comprehensive mental evaluation for Adinda Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, a Togolese national accused of orchestrating a series of robberies in Accra's East Legon area.
Moudjibou, who allegedly robbed a medical doctor of valuables worth thousands of dollars, has been exhibiting signs of coprophagy, a condition involving the consumption of one's own faeces.
According to reports, Moudjibou allegedly stole US$200,000 in cash, a gold waist chain valued at GHS20,000, a gold necklace worth GHS18,000, gold earrings, and a registered pistol belonging to the complainant's husband. The suspect was arrested in Lomé by Interpol Togo and extradited to Ghana on May 14, 2024, after fleeing the country following the robbery.
The prosecution, led by ASP Richard Amoah, informed the court that Moudjibou's erratic behaviour was hindering investigations. The court granted the prosecution's request for a psychiatric assessment, ordering Moudjibou to be taken to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for evaluation. The suspect will remain in the custody of the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) pending further investigation.
Moudjibou's alleged accomplice, Mohammed Djando, is still at large. The case highlights the complexities of dealing with suspects who may have underlying mental health issues, and the need for a thorough evaluation to determine their fitness to stand trial.
