Court Jails Okada Rider 10 Years for Sextortion and Trafficking Nigerian Women

Odumase, Eastern Region, Ghana - 19 April, 2025 - A 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Baba Issa Zakaria, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for human trafficking and sextortion.

Zakaria, who operated in the Eastern Region of Ghana, was found guilty of trafficking young Nigerian women to engage in prostitution in Agomanya, a suburb of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

According to the police, Zakaria lured the victims from Nigeria with promises of work, only to force them into commercial sex work upon arrival in Ghana. He charged each victim GHC 150 weekly as an "agent fee" and even went as far as mobilizing a gang to attack and extort money from one of his clients.

The Odumase Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Kwesi Appiatse Abaidoo, handed down the sentence, citing the premeditated and exploitative nature of Zakaria's actions. Zakaria's accomplice, Ella Elizabeth, a 26-year-old Nigerian national, was fined GHC 2,400 for trading in prostitution.
