Court Convicts 12 Over Land Dispute in Nalerigu, Imposes GHc4,800 Fine Each

Nalerigu, Northern Region - 11 April, 2025 - Twelve individuals have been found guilty of their roles in a violent clash between two communities in Ghana's Northeast Region.

The convictions were handed down by a District Magistrate Court in Nalerigu, which imposed a fine of 400 penalty units, equivalent to GHS 4,800, each of the defendants.

Background
A violent attack was launched by residents of Gbalo on the neighboring Sagong/Kukpong community on July 25, 2022, resulting in widespread destruction of property and multiple houses being torched. The police responded swiftly, arresting the suspects on August 24, 2022, following an intelligence-led operation.

The Court's Verdict
The accused were found guilty by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako on two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime and causing unlawful damage. The court delivered its verdict, emphasizing the severity of their actions.

Police Assurance
 Acting Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabik Anmain in a statement has urged the communities to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes, stating that the police will continue to pursue perpetrators of violence.
