Accra, Ghana - Nov 21, 2024 - The government of Ghana has commissioned several high-profile infrastructure projects, citing its long-term commitment to national growth and development.

According to Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, these projects demonstrate the government's solid track record and not an election gimmick to sway voters.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been commissioning major projects since Tuesday, including:

1. The Bridge Power Project, expected to enhance energy production.
2. The Flower Pot Interchange, aimed at improving urban mobility.
3. The Bank Square, a new command center for the Bank of Ghana's operations.

The President is also set to commission the Tema-Mpakadan railway, a transformative transportation project linking Tema to Ghana's Volta Region and beyond.

Minister Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that these projects are part of an ongoing focus on sustained growth. The government's infrastructure push comes ahead of the 2024 general elections, with opponents criticizing the timing as electoral maneuvering.

However, Minister Oppong Nkrumah maintains that the projects showcase the government's commitment to progress during a adiscussion on the 'The Citiuation Room' on Channel One TV.

“The commissions are part of a bigger track record. If your track record on infrastructure speaks well for you, then the commissioning will just help with the icing on the cake. If your track record on infrastructure does not speak well for you, then it will be an exercise in futility. So for us, we believe that, for example, today about 80 new schools were commissioned.

“It is not the case that these are the only schools we have built since 2017. In my constituency, you will see school blocks, dormitories, etc. So the people have seen what has been done over the years and now they are seeing what is going on in the final stretch.

“So, it is not about what you do in the last two or three weeks, it is about what you have done over the period for the public to access and make a determination,” he stated.
