CID Exposes Chilling Details of Immigration Officer's Murder
Accra, Ghana – 4 August, 2025 – Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has provided updates on the investigation into the murder of Assistant Inspector Stephen King Amoah, a Ghana Immigration Service officer. The case began with a missing person report filed on July 4, which led to a thorough investigation and the eventual discovery of Amoah's charred body.
The murder case has been adjourned to August 8, 2025 and the prime suspect, Bright Aweh, also known as Robert or Highest Bright, is set to reappear before the Adabraka District Court.
Amoah went missing on July 3 after meeting Aweh at Ashongman Estate to settle a debt. Aweh claimed to have handed Amoah GH¢500,000, but inconsistencies in his account raised suspicions. A severely burnt body discovered in a gutter near GBC Satellite on July 9 was later identified as Amoah's.
Forensic investigations confirmed human blood on items retrieved from Aweh's residence and nearby areas. DNA samples from Amoah's mother and son are being used to confirm the identity of the remains. Aweh was rearrested and charged with murder after police secured a court warrant to search his house, where additional blood samples were collected.
Amoah's family members attended the court session dressed in red and black, demanding "Justice for Stephen King Amoah". They expressed frustration during the proceedings. A close friend, Mr. Gamel Abubakar, commended the police for their diligence, stating, "We are hopeful that justice will be served."
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing all those responsible to justice. The case has sparked national concern, with colleagues and loved ones remembering Amoah as a dedicated officer who served with diligence and integrity.
