Bawumia Pledges Welfare System for NPP Members, Vows to End "Adidigya" and "Menyaa Hwee"
Eastern Region, Ghana – September 25 ,2025 - Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who’s contesting as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled a comprehensive welfare program aimed at supporting party delegates and grassroots members. This initiative seeks to address the welfare needs of party members, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and opportunities.
The program will establish Welfare Desks at every level of the party to collect data on members' needs, facilitating fair and efficient resource allocation. It will also introduce targeted welfare policies to directly address the needs of party members, focusing on sustainable and effective support systems. Resources will be channeled directly to the grassroots to facilitate party work, promoting inclusivity and grassroots empowerment.
Dr. Bawumia who was speaking during engagements with current and former constituency executives, as well as former government officials in the Eastern Region, emphasized that the party's neglect of its grassroots members contributed to voter apathy in the 2024 elections. He cited research indicating that perceived neglect was a major factor in the low turnout, stressing that the party cannot hope to recapture power if it fails to meet the welfare needs of its members. "An army marches on its stomach," he noted, highlighting the importance of prioritizing members' welfare.
Dr. Bawumia stated, "No more 'adidigya' or 'menyaa hwee'. Resources will go directly to the grassroots to facilitate party work." He added, "We will roll out major, targeted welfare policies that directly address our welfare needs. I have ideas for a broad, effective, sustainable welfare programme for the NPP, and it will be one of my major initiatives when you give me your mandate to lead this party."
