Bawku conflict claim three more lives, death toll rises to 26
Bawku, Ghana - Nov 16, 2024 - Bawku, a town in Ghana's Upper East Region, is grappling with escalating violence despite the government's efforts to restore order. The chaos began with the return of Seidu Abagre, who was enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023, sparking renewed disturbances.
To address the situation, the Interior Ministry imposed a 12-hour curfew from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, effective October 28, 2024.
The decision was made after an emergency National Security meeting, citing Abagre's presence as a significant threat to public safety and security.
However, despite the curfew, violent clashes persist, claiming at least three lives this week and setting several houses ablaze.
The death toll in the renewed conflict has risen to 26.
