Ashanti Region Observes Final Funeral Rites for Late Asantehemaa
The late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III

Kumasi, Ghana - September 17, 2025 - The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has issued directives to ensure a smooth and dignified observance of the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025. The ARCC's instructions are aimed at maintaining order and decorum during the solemn occasion.

In a statement dated September 17, the council noted that essential government workers are required to wear their official uniforms and carry valid identification cards while on duty. They are also expected to commute to and from their duty stations in official government vehicles, whenever possible. Exempted institutions and essential staff have been urged to cooperate fully with security and regulatory agencies enforcing movement restrictions during the funeral period.

A ban on all funerals within the kingdom was placed by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II from September 1 to 18, allowing for the proper observation of the Asantehemaa's final rites. Residents are expected to remain indoors on the burial day, while shops and markets within Kumasi and parts of the region will be closed. Educational institutions, offices, and banks will also be closed on September 18 in respect of the occasion.

The final funeral rites will take place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, with a church service scheduled for Dwabrem. The Asantehene will sit in state throughout the rites, and paramount chiefs will be in attendance. A procession will make a stop at the Bantama Royal Mausoleum for traditional rites before proceeding to the final burial site at Breman.

The occasion is expected to draw large crowds of mourners, dignitaries, and traditional leaders from within Ghana and beyond. President John Dramani Mahama, Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang  and other former presidents and vice-presidents are scheduled to attend the ceremony.

The ARCC has urged all stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and dignified observance of the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa.
