Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Dies, One-Week Observance Set for August 21
Kumasi, Ashanti Region,Ghana – 11 August, 2025 – The Asante Kingdom is mourning the loss of its revered Queen Mother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made the official announcement during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was a highly respected figure in the Asante Kingdom, known for her wisdom, strength, and devotion to tradition. Born in 1927, she was the biological sister of the current Asantehene and succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, as the 14th Asantehemaa in 2017. Throughout her reign, she played a critical role in preserving Asante culture and guiding the kingdom with her counsel.
A one-week traditional rite will be observed at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to honor the late Queen Mother. The event is expected to draw large crowds, and mourners are expected to wear black and red attire, symbolic of mourning in Ashanti culture. The Asantehene has urged the public to remain respectful of Ashanti customs during the mourning period.
The passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III has sent shockwaves throughout the Asante Kingdom, with traditional authorities, government officials, and citizens paying tribute to her life and legacy. Her influence extended beyond the royal family, and she was widely respected for her commitment to cultural preservation, women's development, and unity among the Ashanti people.
