Anti-Galamsey Protesters Project Environmental Destruction Images Outside Jubilee House

Accra, Ghana - 29 April, 2025 - Activists from the Generational Rights Protection Society have brought attention to the devastating impact of illegal mining, known as galamsey, in Ghana by projecting graphic images of environmental destruction onto a large screen in front of the Jubilee House, the seat of the country's government on Monday April 28.

The group, determined to hold leaders accountable, has vowed to continue its protest over the next two days, culminating in the presentation of a petition to the presidency.

The protesters, who also visited the Ghana Police Service headquarters, are calling for a comprehensive plan to tackle the galamsey menace, which has been linked to severe environmental degradation and water pollution.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, Co-Convenor, called for spiritual support to empower security forces in combating illegal mining activities, saying, "We need to pray for our police to have the strength and wisdom to help end this galamsey menace."
