Akufo-Addo Shares Blame for NPP's Crushing Defeat in 2024 elections - Frank Agyekum
Accra, Ghana - Dec 26, 2024 - In the wake of defeat for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections, Frank Agyekum, spokesperson for former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has pointed to President Akufo-Addo's leadership as a contributing factor.
In an interview on 'JoyNews’ AM Show, Agyekum cited widespread discontent among voters, arrogance within the party ranks, and the imposition of unpopular candidates.
“The signs were there, and the narrative shows that things have been falling apart for a long time. We failed to heed the warnings and take corrective actions, and that’s what has led us here.
According to Agyekum, the party's leadership, under President Akufo-Addo, bears ultimate responsibility for the defeat.
"The leader always bears the ultimate responsibility—it stops with him. When it’s good, we credit him; when it’s bad, he must share the blame,” he said.
“There was arrogance, there was hardship in the system, and it seemed those in power failed to fully recognise the discontent. This disconnect between the leadership and the grassroots likely contributed to the significant defeat,'' he added.
