Kufuor Backs National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

Accra, Ghana - 31 May, 2025 - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has thrown his support behind the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving scheduled for July 1, 2025, emphasizing the importance of governance rooted in humanity, unity, and inclusiveness.
During a courtesy call by the Planning Committee at his Peduase residence, Kufuor commended President John Mahama for the initiative, highlighting the significance of Republic Day, which marks Ghana's transition to a republic.
Kufuor believes that using this day to give thanks and pray for prosperity is a commendable idea.
“The Republic Day was when Ghana gave itself its first president, and it is a day that is not supposed to be overlooked. So if President Mahama has thought in his faith not only to use the day as the day Ghana became a republic country but to give thanks to God and ask for deepened prosperity, then I say he thought it right, and I agree with him. So we look forward to that and celebrate it.”
He promised to attend the event if available, and the Planning Committee has welcomed his endorsement.
On his part, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, thanked Kufuor for his backing, noting that the former President's endorsement will contribute to the event's success.
“Kufuor gave us a warm and cordial reception, and he also went on to endorse the whole idea and promised that he would be there. He has promised that he will be there if he is available.”
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving aims to bring Ghanaians together in reflection and celebration, and Kufuor's backing is seen as a significant boost to the initiative.
