ECG to Launch 'Operation Keep the Lights On' on Jan 15 to Crack down on Power Theft and Unpaid Bills

Accra, Ghana - 13 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a nationwide crackdown on unpaid bills and illegal connections, dubbed "Operation Keep the Lights On".

The two-week initiative, which begins on January 15, aims to recover outstanding arrears, inspect prepaid meters, and enforce compliance with disconnection regulations.

ECG officials will be conducting inspections across all operational areas, and customers are being warned against self-reconnection, which is considered illegal under Legislative Instrument (LI) 2413.

During the operation, ECG's regional and district offices will operate on a limited basis, with essential services only available.

In a notice to the public, ECG urged customers to cooperate fully with the exercise, emphasizing its mandate to legally access installations and ensure efficient service delivery.

Below is the notice from the ECG.
