Adu-Boahene's Lawyers Accuse Attorney General of Subverting Justice with 'Unfair and Prejudicial' Comments
Dr. Dominic Ayine is Ghana's Attorney General and Justice Minister.

Accra, Ghana - 25 March, 2025 - Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine is facing accusations of subverting justice after lawyers for Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, and his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, claimed he publicly declared their clients guilty before trial.

At a press conference on Monday March 24, Dr. Ayine revealed that Kwabena Adu Boahene's arrest is tied to a suspected $7 million fraud case involving a cybersecurity contract.

According to Dr. Ayine, funds earmarked for a national cyber defense system were allegedly siphoned off into private accounts.

However, Adu Boahene's lawyers from the legal firm Zoe, Akyea & Co.strongly condemned Dr. Ayine's remarks in a statement, labeling them as a "prejudicial press engagement."

They argued that Dr. Ayine's comments prematurely convicted Adu Boahene in the public eye, despite ongoing investigations. The lawyers emphasized the importance of due process and impartiality in criminal investigations, stressing that suspects should be charged before facing public trial.

“The power to investigate any Ghanaian for alleged criminal offenses has no party colours.

“It is a painstaking exercise to ensure that the rule of law is observed and that persons with material stakes are not unfairly targeted by those who wield the powers of the State.”

They warned that Dr. Ayine's comments could unfairly influence public opinion against Adu Boahene and undermine the principle of fair trial.

“All professional investigations, and not politically motivated ones, must be devoid of razzmatazz and propaganda. The suspect, who is the subject of the investigation, must first be charged before he is subjected to public trial—so that if he is innocent, he is not destroyed by prejudicial attacks and trial propaganda before his day in court. These considerations must guide our jurisprudence,'' portions of the statement read.
