Ablekuma North Rerun Violence: Two Suspects Nabbed, More Arrests Expected
Accra, Ghana – 23 July, 2025 – The Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals linked to violent incidents during the parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North Constituency. Musah Muntari, 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed, also known as Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman, are assisting the police with investigations.
The Ablekuma North rerun, held on July 11, 2025, was marred by disturbances at several polling centers, prompting public concern and calls for accountability. The violence led to assaults on individuals, including former Minister Hawa Koomson, who was allegedly attacked at a polling station.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to bringing perpetrators of election-related violence to justice. The police are reviewing multiple videos to identify individuals involved in the disturbances and have urged the public to cooperate and share credible information.
The Minority in Parliament has demanded the immediate dismissal of government officials accused of celebrating or justifying political violence, including Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw and Malik Basintale. The CDD-Ghana has also condemned the violence and called for urgent institutional reforms and stronger law enforcement .
The police have issued Medical Report Forms to victims of the violence and are working to identify and prosecute all individuals involved. Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka has assured the public that perpetrators will be brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation.
