Suzy Pinamang's Medical Trip to UK Gets Green Light

Accra, Ghana - 08 May, 2025 - Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced today that Suzy Adwoa Pinamang, a 16-year-old student who lost her eyesight after being accidentally shot in the eye by a classmate, has secured a UK visa for urgent medical treatment.

In a social media post, Ablakwa disclosed that two caregivers accompanying her on the trip also received visas, courtesy of his intervention.

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, businessman Ibrahim Mahama has generously offered to cover the entire cost of Suzy's medical treatment in the UK. 

The Minister expressed gratitude to UK High Commissioner Harriet Thompson for her assistance in facilitating the visa process. Ablakwa also commended Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Bantama, who initially brought Suzy's situation to his attention.

The Ghana High Commission in the UK has been directed to provide Suzy and her caregivers with special consular privileges during their stay.

Ablakwa encouraged Suzy not to lose hope, wishing her the best and assuring her of the Ghanaian people's support. Suzy, a Form 2 student at Adventist Senior High School, is expected to undergo eye surgery in the UK .

''I am able to announce that the UK visas for Suzy Adwoa Pinamang and two caregivers accompanying her on her medical trip have been secured. 

''I have also instructed the Ghana High Commission in the UK to extend special consular privileges when she arrives in the UK. 

''I wish to express profound gratitude to UK High Commissioner, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson who has been extremely helpful pursuant to my urgent appeal to her on compassionate grounds,'' portions of the statement read.
