We will recall parliament to compel EC to audit voter register - Ato Forson

Accra, Ghana- Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has hinted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may seek a parliamentary recall to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to examine the voter registration for the 2024 election.

According to Dr. Forson, the audit is critical for identifying anomalies and ensuring that the future elections are free, fair, and transparent.

During a nationwide NDC rally against the EC in Accra, Dr. Forson voiced significant worry over suspected tampering with the voter register, stressing that the party cannot ignore the irregularities.

Dr. Forson emphasized that the NDC's need for an audit stemmed from its commitment to ensuring peace throughout the election.

He also encouraged the EC to act swiftly and transparently to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

He went on to discuss particular difficulties in his constituency, pointing out substantial inconsistencies. "In my own constituency, we discovered the insertion of over 3,000 names to the transfer registry, as well as many cases of double names. In total, the registry has grown by almost 5,000 names. This raises severe issues, and we need Parliament to act," Dr. Forson said.

The Minority Leader also expressed general reservations about the EC's activities, hinting that the Commission's behavior was disturbing.

Dr Forson revealed that the NDC is prepared to take additional measures if their concerns are not addressed.  “So what you are seeing today is just the first step, we will undertake a series of activities, including a possible recall of Parliament for us to compel the Electoral Commissioners to do what is required.

In closing, he called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from the EC, reminding citizens that their role in the upcoming elections is vital.

“The most important person is the Ghanaian voter. We want to make sure that on election  day, everyone can vote and that every vote counts. We are asking Ghanaians to get involved and ensure that the right things are done," he added.
