US$20 million cash shipment has arrived at KIA- Ablakwa alleges
Accra, Ghana - Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has alleged that a US$20 million cash shipment has arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Ablakwa revealed in a Facebook post on Tuesday August, 27, 2024 that the cash, which was cleared by Bank of Ghana officials, had inconsistent supporting documents, contradicting the bank's August 21 letter to customs and airport officials.
According to the legislator, while the Bank of Ghana claims the money was ordered by the Central Bank of Liberia for re-export to Monrovia, intercepted documents suggest the consignee is the Bank of Ghana itself, not the Liberian central bank.
Ablakwa, who claims he is tracking the movement of the funds with international partners, has vowed to monitor the transfer to confirm if it will indeed be sent to Liberia, and if so, when and in what amount.
The images below were also posted on the legislator's Facebook page.
The development has sparked concerns about transparency and accountability in Ghana's financial dealings.
The Bank of Ghana has yet to comment on the matter.
