Two juicy cocoa road projects were awarded to Bawumia’s brother’s company- Sammy Gyamfi alleges
The National Communications Officer of the opppsition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has claimed that in 2020, the NPP government awarded two lucrative cocoa road projects to Resource Access Limited, a firm owned by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's brother.
The project was granted to Resource Access Limited through sole-sourcing rather than competitive bidding, resulting in an inflated cost of GH₵83 million.
They are the upgrade of the 22.18-kilometer Assin Akropong-Odomasi-Asibrem road and the 14.50-kilometer Kyibosohasowodze bungalow feeder road.
Mr. Gyamfi stated that the contract value for renovating the Assin Akropong-Odomasi-Asibrem road was GH₵54,263,718.64, while the latter was valued at GH₵29,468,546.54.
"Apart from the overpriced Sunyani Airport Phase One rehabilitation project, two juicy cocoa road projects were also awarded to Bawumia’s brother’s company, Resource Access Limited through sole-sourcing at an inflated cumulative cost of GH₵83 million in the year 2020,” he claimed.
He said that the Auditor-General deemed the single-sourced cocoa road projects to be "overpriced and awarded in breach of the Public Procurement Law, thus, causing the nation huge financial losses."
"Indeed, paragraph 65 of a Performance Audit Report by the Auditor-General on the Construction of Cocoa Roads revealed that; “COCOBOD 4 NATIONAL SECRETARIAT P.O BOX AN 5825 ACCRA-NORTH, GHANA did not rigorously analyse its procurement options for value for money but sought approval from PPA for single sourcing and restricted tendering, thus procuring contracts which were up to three times more expensive than they could have obtained through competitive tendering" he said.
