Former GIHOC Boss Maxwell Kofi Jumah Arrested by Security Operatives in Kumasi
Accra, Ghana - 30 June, 2025 - National security operatives have arrested Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, at his Kumasi residence according to reports.
The arrest is believed to be connected to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial impropriety during Jumah's tenure at GIHOC. Specifically, Jumah is accused of questionable acquisition of state vehicles, including a Genesis G90 luxury sedan purchased for GH¢ 4,943.11, significantly below its estimated value of GH¢ 98,862.
He is also accused of mismanaging company assets, inflating staff numbers, and selling GIHOC properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without proper authorization.
Confirming the arrest, Paul Yandoh, Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), disclosed that Jumah is being held at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, awaiting further instructions from Accra.
“They denied him the chance to change clothes before being taken away in a pickup vehicle to the Ashanti Regional Police Command. He is currently in custody awaiting further instructions from Accra”, Yandoh told Asaase News.
He described the incident as "political persecution," suggesting the government is using state institutions to suppress opposition voices. "This is not the democracy we are building. It appears the President is using state institutions to suppress the opposition," Yandoh stated.
